Nissan Commits To New Standard for EV Charging
What Chargers are Compatible with Nissan EVs?
Electric vehicle technology is on a metaphorical rocket ship when it comes to development. However, the necessary infrastructure needs to catch up a bit. This is to be expected. However, Nissan is doing its part by making its front-line EVs compatible with currently available charging stations. So, what chargers are compatible with Nissan EVs? Everyone wants to avoid the problem that plagued cellphones for years, different chargers for every brand. Let’s take a closer look at what’s coming from Nissan.

Adaptable EV-Charging Technology
Nissan is joining the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and several other electric vehicle industry leaders. Starting in 2025, Nissan EVs in the Canadian market will arrive with NACS ports that will allow models like the Nissan Ariya to use a lot of the existing charging infrastructure currently found throughout Canada.
“Adopting the NACS standard underlines Nissan’s commitment to making electric mobility even more accessible as we follow our Ambition 2030 long-term vision of greater electrification,” Jérémie Papin, chairperson, Nissan Americas, said in a press release. “We are happy to provide access to thousands more fast chargers for Nissan EV drivers, adding confidence and convenience when planning long-distance journeys.”
How Will This Work?
The implications for this kind of partnership are clear. Without trying to put too fine of a point on it, by making Nissan EVs able to use existing charging infrastructure, it makes the clean technology more user-friendly. It helps lower the barriers to people moving away from fossil fuel-powered vehicles and toward electric powertrains. Additionally, having these universal chargers available, Nissan EV owners can shorten their charging times at more locations around the country. For example, the Nissan Ariya can charge its battery from 10 percent to 80 percent capacity in as little as 35 minutes using quick charging.
